Major Defense Contractors

Has anyone ever left the government for a major defense contractor (without retiring from the government first)? I am curious about the pros and cons. Embedded contractor support in my organization is not seen as at all desirable. There is no room for career growth, and much less stability. I am not even sure they are paid well. However, I am not sure about the range of opportunities. I was approached by a recruiter, and am clearing it with Ethics before speaking to them.
