    Original post

I recently started selling Parts to the Gov. and am getting into some higher dollar Parts (silo drawers, ship/sat Parts etc.) w/ open RFQs...Would someone be able to explain a little about Origin Inspection? I work out of My house/garage & have no significant area or equipment for testing Parts and basically repackage/relabel etc. (new old Base Stock in mil.pak w/1348s etc) Parts on Awards with Dest. Insp..I am working this summer on upgrading Inspection conditions/equip (What should/can I Do/get?); But in the mean time have with held Offers due to uncertainty...I actually have spoken with local Insp. on an unforgettable Award a couple years ago..(Inspection pt. was Changed after I shipped Parts, I ship within a few days of Award..Imagine the calls etc for the next 3+ months! ..Got paid & All happy). I was thinking of having a sampling of open Parts laid out on (clean/well lit etc.) table for Insp.?; Will this suffice? I am also looking for a relatively cheap source for marvelseal 1312 or eq etc. by the roll; as well as some advice on a NSN inventory database program (cheap/free). If anyone can help I'd appreciate it..Thank You!

    Will this suffice?

You have to ask the customer.

Thank You; I am unable to get any electronic correspondence to go thru to any email add. on solicitations (comes back as undelivered etc..) . Therefore I can't really ask for pre-approval prior to submitting Offer. Naturally, I don't feel comfortable Bidding w/o exception with unknowns in regard to Inspection. I haven't had any luck Bid w/excep. in these cases (noting in exception Destination Inspection only...most overseas which I assume plays a big factor..). I suppose I could try to phone coordinator if listed on RFQ and ask. Thanks again for suggestion..

I had a couple other questions..I'll just add them here. On nomenclature line of label (under barcode cage p/n), Is there a space between comma in first and second words in Part? (Example: SWITCH, PRESSURE vs. SWITCH,PRESSURE). I'm leaving a space and seeing that Most of the time (1348s seem about 50% also in regards to space, sometimes not matching label). RFQ document can vary within same doc. so not sure...I want My (new! # $!) database done correctly and easily searchable. Also with respect to packaging: I'm seeing alot of the newer pallets are coming in Original clean boxes with Parts (& 1348 attac. & misc. shipping info if pertains) only. I used to see alot of other paperwork which was sent in with Parts (vendor invoices etc..), usually on top of packed parts. Currently, Is a copy of 1155 to be included in shipping box? or is it dunnage/waste or even Not recommended? I never used to; I assumed once Parts accepted into stock they went their own way, and I never had any problems. But I have started this practice on the outside Case#1 inside Carton#1 (picture a case (forementioned #1) with 24 small boxes inside. This is clean except for Label (barcode,p/n,qty nsn etc.) & goes inside Carton#1 (shipping box/container) which has shipping info etc..In the most recent pallets I've seen dating from 2005-2010s; I'm finding some invoice type paperwork as well as extra labels etc..From the better quality jobs packaging etc. and more expensive Parts. I just started including copy of 1155, outside labels, extra item labels on the outside of Case#1 in a clear plastic packing slip holder. Is this suggested?

Yeah...I've got some 'pent up questions...Been building My nsn database for a few years w/ little contact (15,000+ nsn; many multipiece). Has anyone ever been to the packaging etc. seminar in Columbus & Do You feel its worth going (2 day sem.+ 6 hr. drive each way= @4 days)? Or Would My time be better spent building database/making money/inventory etc..? I love going for big loads (I call them missions; small= Me & My van 1-3000 lbs, med=Me, Ken + van/uhaul @7-10000 lbs, and My favorite...Large= crew+ 2 26' uhauls w/ @15-20k lbs. 50+ success;1 loss of van, Parts got home); just not thrilled if there is nothing significant to learn. I'm picturing an outdated overhead with ditto style projections showing outdated outlines of a previously used logistics system. Am I close? Thanks!

BP - A suggestion. Reach out to the a Procurement Technical Assistance Center near you. I am thinking that they may be able to help you through all of your pent up questions.

Noting your NY location here is a website that will help you identify which Center is the best to help you. Suggest you take a look at the Association of Procurement Technical Assistance Centers in total to get an understanding of who they are to help you channel your energy when you do make contact.

CC...What a great link, Thank You..I tried various local eco-zone/bus-dev. type agencies extensions etc. a few years ago & got nowhere (very discouraging). I'm gonna try these guys out as it looks like DLA has some influence and I have done quite a bit of business with them.

And Vern..Thanks again; I went back in to an open RFQ (since 3/14; pretty sure I'm one of few with req. & # of Parts...2 open RFQs for this Part) and called only # on solicitation (beep/disconnect). Email was returned as well. I do have old Offers in w/ Exception being Dest. Insp. & US delivery (unique huh?). I thought about editing My offer but does have FAT (which I was to inquire); I can put a meter across contacts, But thats about it for this Part. Not sure what FATing is involved as simple mic/speaker-type element. At a standstill I guess.

I think very few, if any, email add. in solicitations even work. When I do have correspondence with DoD (certs,1348s,Parts etc.); They have always contacted me, after my Offer goes thru dibbs with an email that allows interaction. I figured the Large Defense Contractors (LDC) had a private email pathway on all RFQs that allows interaction/changes. When I first got into this, I had the same problems with emails on RFQs and actually mailed about 25 Offers (including ALL paperwork, copies of ALL pages of RFQ & Offer as well as invoices/manifests/labels/packaging/parts/1348s etc..) in manila envelopes along with a nice 3x5 card with My info...Imagine the phone calls...Finally a nice but very stern CO explained all done electronically. I had no idea but life got a lot easier after that call.

Good news!...I have 70 pieces to pack up over the weekend & shipped a big one yesterday (2 Awards in 2 weeks is Good for me); + my database is lighting up big time with the new 5k RFQs...I check 'em at 12:15 a.m & build a list for morning then narrow according to $...busy week next week. Have a great weekend Everyone!
