Do Not Use An E-mail Address As a Username/Display Name

If you use an e-mail address as a username or display name, you will not be registered.

That is because this software posts your username or dispay name when you log and that invites spammers who will litter your inbox.  The e-mail address that you are asked to provide when you register is so that the software can respond to you depending on your preferences.  The software explains that e-mail address is hidden from others.
