In reviewing the prescription for 52.217-8, Option to Extend Services, it is pretty clear that it states the option should be used for services. Has anyone ever used this in supply contracts as a stop gap/bridge?

No - That clause should not even be in a supply contract.

You are not being clear. What do you mean by "stop gap/bridge"?
