Use of CPFF option line items

In what circumstances would a CO use a CPFF task order with CPFF option line items instead of incrementally funding a CPFF task order for a two-year systems engineering requirement when funding is allotted for only one year at a time? I am unfamiliar with the use of cost-type options and what advantage they offer.
