Is there any hard restriction in the FAR or other govt regulation restricting weekend work? We have a CO who is questioning why work was done on the weekend, although there is no language in our contract that expressly restricts it.

Fixed-price, cost-reimbursement, or T&M/LH?
What is the nature of the work?

There is no restriction on contractor work hours. However, there may be a restriction on reimbursing the cost of those hours. For example, 52.222-2 may limit payment of overtime premiums. There may also be concerns with uncompensated overtime worked by salaried, exempt, personnel (see 52.237-10).
Generally speaking, the government should not want to manage how the contractor performs its efforts.

What do you mean by "weekend work"? Is the worker being paid at overtime rates?

Since OT has come into the discussion a visit to FAR subpart 22.103 in total might help. Note that a normal workweek is defined as a 40 hour period not specific days of the week.

Thanks for all the feedback. We were surprised the CO wanted to manage how we are performing that closely as well. If anything, we thought it showed dedication on the part of the employee. The employee took PTO earlier in the week and they wanted to catch up, so they worked a few contract billable hours on Saturday and Sunday so deliverables didn't slip.
This is under a cost reimbursement contract type so we are solely invoicing the government for an employee's actual costs regardless of when they perform the work. We don't apply any premiums to these costs. Additionally, our accounting system uses dilution, so even if he were to have worked over 40 hours in a given week to this contract, his effective/adjusted hourly rate would have been calculated lower, and our invoiced amount to the Govt would have been the same as if he had worked 40 hours.

Seems like you have an opportunity to ask the CO what their concerns are. If the CO doesn't want your company to let its employees work weekends get that direction in writing.

_KB_, a salaried employee, or an hourly-rate employee?
